Imagine that we have a database of customers and another one of transactions. We have an online shop that sells both Tablets and other eReader products and, on the other hand we also have a category for eBooks, and electronic books.The first thing to do is to cross both segments, sales made of electronic devices capable of reading books and, electronic books, eBooks. We first see that there are no intersections, because we are analyzing transactions, but when we change the resolution level to customers, by dragging and dropping the customers database, we see customers who bought only one type of products, customers who bought the other category, and customers who have bought both eReaders and eBooks. We think there is a potential in customers who have bought electronic devices but have not bought any ebook from us. We are also adding a new segment, customers who are subscribed to the ebook library. Now, we have a group of customers who have bought an eReader or Tablet, who haven't bought yet an electronic book and who also are subscribers of our electronic library. Just by doing click on this, we identify those customers as a potential selling opportunity and we are now able to make a customized campaign to them.
